Horse racing & greyhounds
Racing keeps its own language, apart from cricket and every other sport, and its terms decide what a bet pays.
An each-way bet splits into a win bet and a place bet of equal stake, which doubles the total outlay. Starting price, ante-post, non-runners and the Rule 4 deduction fill out the vocabulary; tips on horses and dogs are part of the section.
Racing is set apart by tax as well. When the general remote rate of General Betting Duty becomes 25% on 1 April 2027, remote bets on UK horse racing remain at 15%, and pool betting falls under Pool Betting Duty, also 15%.
